U.S. DAILY SITUATION REPORT (SITREP)
================================================================================
DATE: March 23, 2026 | TIME: 18:00 EST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ BLUF: BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT ]
-----------------------------
OPERATION EPIC FURY ENTERS DAY 24 AS THE FIRST "TRIDENT GUARD" CONVOY SUCCESSFULLY
TRANSITS THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ. DOMESTICALLY, SENATOR MARKWAYNE MULLIN HAS BEEN
OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED AS DHS SECRETARY (52-48), VOWING TO END THE 38-DAY SHUTDOWN
BY MIDNIGHT. WASHINGTON STATE TRANSITIONS TO RECOVERY AS FLOODWATERS RECEDE,
WHILE A "CRITICAL" FIRE WEATHER OUTBREAK THREATENS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I. THE IRAN WAR (OPERATION EPIC FURY - DAY 24)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* MARITIME VICTORY: At 09:45 local time, a convoy of 12 commercial tankers led
by the USS Abraham Lincoln successfully exited the Strait of Hormuz. No
hostile fire was reported, though three Iranian "fast-attack" boats were
shadowed and warned off by coalition helicopters.
* AIR CAMPAIGN: Kinetic focus has shifted to the "Basij" internal security
infrastructure in eastern Iran. U.S. Cyber Command successfully disabled
the IRGC's secondary backup satellite uplink, further isolating regional
commanders from Tehran.
* DIPLOMACY: The Iranian Mission to the UN issued a "Final Warning" regarding
coalition presence in their territorial waters. Russia and China have
abstained from the latest UNSC resolution condemning the blockade.
* CASUALTIES: No U.S. casualties reported in the last 48 hours. Independent
humanitarian groups estimate the displacement of 3 million Iranians.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
II. HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* CONFIRMATION: Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) was confirmed as the 4th DHS
Secretary of the current administration. He was sworn in at 4:30 PM EST.
* SHUTDOWN RESOLUTION: Sec. Mullin announced an "Administrative Funding Pivot"
utilizing unspent 2025 border supplemental funds to pay TSA and CBP
personnel immediately. Full operations are expected to resume by 06:00 EST
tomorrow, effectively ending the 38-day lapse.
* AVIATION: Security wait times began to drop late this afternoon as "Blue Flu"
absentees returned to work following the confirmation news.
* THREAT LEVEL: DHS remains at "High" (Orange). Monitoring for asymmetric
cyber-attacks on U.S. telecommunications remains the top priority.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
III. SEVERE WEATHER & WILDFIRES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* WASHINGTON RECOVERY: The Skagit and Snohomish Rivers have dropped below flood
stage. WSDOT has reopened one lane of I-5 near Bellingham. Total damage
assessments have risen to $185M as mudslide debris is cleared.
* FIRE WEATHER: A "Critical" Fire Weather risk is active for the Texas and
Oklahoma Panhandles through Tuesday. 55 MPH gusts and 8% humidity are
expected to create "extreme" fire behavior in dormant grasslands.
* PLAINS/MIDWEST: The record-breaking cold front ("The Polar Fragment") has
stalled. 22 states are under Freeze Warnings tonight. Minneapolis recorded
a record low of 4°F (-15°C) this morning.
* NEBRASKA: Final mop-up of the Morrill Fire (643,074 acres) is complete.
State officials have begun the "Burned Area Emergency Response" (BAER)
to prevent erosion before the spring thaw.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IV. ECONOMIC & INFRASTRUCTURE IMPACT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* ENERGY: Brent Crude dropped to $96/bbl following the successful Hormuz
transit. Retail gas prices are expected to stabilize after a 14-day surge.
* LOGISTICS: Rail lines in the Pacific Northwest remain under "Inspect and
Proceed" orders due to potential track bed saturation from the floods.
* MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 412 points on news of the
DHS shutdown resolution and the reopening of the Strait.
