The Wireless Institute of Australia's Technical Advisory Committee has fine-tuned its recommendations for changes to the amateu
r radio band plan after reviewing more than three dozen submissions.
It is now recommending that the emergency communications channel on 40m be aligned with IARU Region 3 on 7.110 MHz, that the SS
B portion of the 6m band be widened and that 1.87 MHz and 3.686 MHz be chosen as the AM centres of activity for 160m and 80m.
The committee's full document, which reaffirms its other original proposals and clarifies use of the FM Analogue ATV band, has
been published online.

ELECTION OF DIRECTORS UPDATE
I am Pete Cherry VK2LP, the WIA Returning Officer with an update on the Election of Directors for the Wireless Institute of Aus
tralia, the WIA.
As previously advised three (3) Directors will retire at the conclusion of the next WIA Annual General Meeting which will be he
ld in May 2026.
These Directors are
Chris Dimitrijevic VK3FY
Steve Green VK2TSG and
Lee Moyle VK3GK.
Each retiring Director was eligible for re-nomination.
A call for nominations for the position of Director of the WIA was made in November 2025 in the WIA National News Broadcast and
in Amateur Radio Magazine in accordance with the Election Regulations.
I advised that four (4) nominations from WIA members were received for the position as Director of the WIA. These nominations w
ere valid and received by the advertised closing date.
Those nominations were for:
Chris Dimitrijevic VK3FY
Klaus Illhardt VK3IU
Lee Moyle VK3GK
Justin Giles-Clark VK7TW
As there will be three (3) vacancies at the conclusion of the AGM and four nominations were received, an election was necessary
.
Voting was by electronic means and 3 members elected to vote by postal ballot. Voting opened on the 1st of February 2026 and cl
osed on the 28th of February 2026.
With the voting not being compulsory, voter participation was high with 39% of eligible voters casting their vote.
Counting had been finalised with the results for the elected candidates as:
Justin Giles-Clark VK7TW with 949 votes
Lee Moyle VK3GK with 859 votes
Chris Dimitrijevic VK3FY with 728 votes
The remaining candidate, Klaus Illhardt VK3IU, received 514 votes.
These three (3) Directors elect will take up their role at the conclusion of the Annual General meeting to be held on the 2nd o
f May 2026. They will remain in that role for a period of two (2) years.
I take this opportunity to thank all of the nominees and congratulate the successful candidates on their election to this impor
tant role. And thank you to all the members who cast their vote.
The four (4) continuing Directors of the WIA are:
Giles Kirby VK5GK
Peter Clee VK8ZZ
Peter Schrader VK4EA
Scott Williams VK3KJ
These continuing four (4) directors will retire at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting in May 2027.
This has been spoken and authorised by Pete Cherry VK2LP, the WIA Returning Officer
