Short Range Forecast Discussion
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD

Valid 12Z Wed Apr 08 2026 - 12Z Fri Apr 10 2026

..Chances for heavy rain and thunderstorms over parts of the
Florida Peninsula over the next couple of days...

..Elevated to critical fire weather concerns for the Southeast on
Wednesday...

..Chances for severe thunderstorms across Central Plains on
Wednesday and Southern Rockies/Plains on Thursday...

High pressure continues to dominate much of CONUS, which will
bring calmer conditions through Wednesday. The low pressure system
that sits over Upper Midwest will continue to move East/Northeast
over the next few days. The associated frontal passage will bring
chances for mixed precipiation over parts of the Northern Plains,
Upper Midwest and Great Lakes early Wednesday. Further south, over
the Central Plains into Ohio Valley and Great Lakes, warm Gulf
moisture will help promote thunderstorms and showers along the
cold front Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. SPC issued a
marginal risk for severe thunderstorms and isolated large hail
across parts of Kansas for Wednesday and parts of southern High
Plains into Kansas and Mid-Missouri Valley on Thursday. Chances
for thunderstorms and showers develop over Southern Rockies/Plains
on Thursday, as the front dips further south. Furthermore, WPC has
issued a marginal risk for excessive rainfall for parts of the
Central Plains and Midwest for Thursday.

The stationary front over the southern parts of Florida will
continue to slowly move offshore, but will continue to funnel in
warm moisture producing scattered thunderstorms and showers, that
may produce localized flash flooding. Further north, elevated to
critical fire weather condition persist for Wednesday, as the high
pressure system continues to aid in dry airmass and strong
northeast winds over south-central/eastern Georgia and southwest
South Carolina.

Much of CONUS will continue to experience mostly 5-10 degrees
above normal highs through Friday, with the exception of the
Northern Plains and East Coast, where 10-15 degrees below normal
temperatures persist through Thursday. On Friday, the Northern
Plains and the East Coast return to near normal temperatures.
