A developing wave of low pressure over the Southern Plains on
Wednesday will move northeastward to the Upper Great Lakes by
Friday. On Wednesday, the system will produce showers and severe
thunderstorms over the Central/Southern Plains. Therefore, the SPC
has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms
over the Central/Southern Plains through Thursday morning. The
hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent
lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few
tornadoes.

Additionally, the storms will produce heavy rain over the region.
Therefore, on Wednesday, the WPC has issued a Slight Risk (level
2/4) of excessive rainfall over parts of the Middle Mississippi
Valley and Central/Southern Plains. The associated heavy rain will
create mainly localized areas of flash flooding, with urban areas,
roads, small streams, and low-lying areas being the most
vulnerable. Furthermore, rain/freezing rain will develop from
parts of the Northern Plains/Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great
Lakes into parts of the Northeast on Wednesday. Moreover, light
snow will develop over parts of the Northern Plains/Upper
Mississippi Valley.

In addition, showers and severe thunderstorms will develop across
the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday. Therefore, the
SPC has issued a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms
over parts of the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic through Thursday
morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms are
frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a
few tornadoes.

On Thursday, heavy snow will develop across the Northern
Plains/Upper Mississippi Valley and into Northern Maine.
Similarly, rain/freezing rain will develop from parts of the
Northern Plains/Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes into
parts of the Northeast.

Also, on Thursday, showers and severe thunderstorms will develop
across parts of the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valleys and the Great
Lakes/Ohio Valley. Therefore, the SPC has issued a Slight Risk
(level 2/5) of severe weather over parts of the Upper/Middle
Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes/Ohio Valley on Thursday. The
hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent
lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few
tornadoes. Showers and thunderstorms will also develop over parts
of the Gulf Coast States.

Meanwhile, upper-level energy will help produce rain and
higher-elevation snow over the Northwest Wednesday into Thursday.
Also, snow will develop over parts of the Northern Rockies, the
Northern Intermountain Region, parts of the Great Basin, the
Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the Central Rockies from Wednesday
into Thursday.
