..An anomalously early heatwave begins to intensify and expand
east across the western U.S....

..Record cold across the Deep South this morning will shift into
the Southeast by Wednesday morning...

..Deep cyclone and potent cold front exit New England early this
morning with lake-effect snow gradually tapers off later today...

..Wet across western Washington states as light snow moves
through the northern Plains and upper Midwest...

A deep cyclone together with a potent cold front continue to move
through New England early this morning where very gusty winds,
brief heavy downpours and sharply falling temperatures are still
in progress. The cyclone will move farther away into eastern
Canada as the day progresses but the huge circulation will allow
strong and gusty winds to continue into tonight across New England
before diminishing on Wednesday. Behind the big storm, a quieter
weather pattern will follow for much of the U.S. However, an
unusually early heatwave will be expanding eastward across the
western U.S. as the week progresses. High temperatures reaching
the century mark will begin to appear this afternoon across
portions of southern California. By Wednesday afternoon, high
temperatures will soar well up into the 100s across much of the
Desert Southwest. Temperatures this hot so early in the year
could shatter high temperatures records by as much as 10 degrees.
Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect for much of the Desert
Southwest.

Meanwhile, Freeze Warnings are in effect across much of the South
and into the Southeast this morning due to near or below freezing
wind chill values behind the deep cyclone. A moderating trend is
expected through the next couple of days but record low
temperatures will still be possible Wednesday morning across the
Southeast. For the northern tier, a swath of light snow will be
moving through the northern Plains today reaching into the upper
Midwest on Wednesday. Otherwise, dry and anomalously warm weather
from the western U.S. will begin to expand into the central and
southern Plains during the next couple of days. Across the
Pacific Northwest, an occluded system from the Pacific will move
onshore to keep conditions wet for western Washington state, along
with chances for snow/mixed precipitation over the Cascades and
northern Rockies through the next couple of days. The Weather
Prediction Center maintains a Marginal Risk for Excessive Rainfall
over portions of Washington as soils will be relatively moist with
additional 2-4" of rain expected. For the Sunshine state, showers
and thunderstorms may linger across South Florida and the Keys as
the cold front becomes nearly stationary just to the south.
