The net ran from 1900UTC to 2000UTC
-- Attendees
MM0UHR - Chris - Net Control
GM0CQV - Brendan
GM0NRT - Bill
GM7ATQ - John
-- New and improved nodes
GM0CQV has his node up and on the Internet. Firmware issues with his
access point turned out to cause intermitted saving errors so settings
were sometimes forgotten but it's all working now.
The RSGB records for GB7CQV have also been updates and they were
praised for being very helpful and thorough.
MM0UHR was speaking to someone on GB3ED who was interested in packet
and may well try it out soon.
GM0NRT was asking about 4m packet in the Edinburgh area as he has a
suitable radio going spare. Unfortanately Kilsyth seems to be offline
long term for now.
GM7HPP seems to have a VHF port and GM7ATQ reports that station in his
mheard but not recently.
-- How to get other people into the hobby
The RSGB president gave a well-attended talk in Aberdeen recently
talking in part about getting new people into the hobby. While radio
meetups are good stuff, perhaps meeting people in other hobbies and
getting a bit of cross-pollination would be good.
An Edinburgh amateur does non-amateur radio support for a local group
and is ready to help anyone who shows a wider interest but nothing so
far.
Meshtastic, as an unlicencesed tech was seen as a good gateway.
MM0UHR has SOTA cards he gives to people who ask what he is up to on
hillsides. No conversions there either.
The Scouting communication batch can be earned simply by posessing a
foundation licence. Perhaps helping local troops get into it that way.
-- Other
GM0CQV has started the shed process. ETA June. It is going to do double
duty as a shack and office.
GM7ATQ tested his CTCSS circuit and it seems to be good but there's no
traffic on the test-repeater to confirm he is still getting through.
The circuit and how it links into the radio were of great interest.
