  • Facebook Post: Running Quote from movie

I have no idea what tear-jerker movie I watched on the hallmark channel but my favorite lines of the movie are worth repeating:

“They say in Africa every morning an antelope wakes up and knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. They say that every morning when a lion wakes up it must run faster than the tastes antelope or it will starve. See, it doesn’t matter who you are but what matters is when you wake up you are running.”

Now I know where my track coach from years back got the line. I never knew.

WTF? A snow storm in the Northeast? While I am here from Florida? What did I do wrong?

For about a week now I have been trying to figure out what the breakdown is between some greyhound racing professionals and some greyhound racing adoption people. I think I have finally figured it out…. both groups want to tell each other how to run their businesses. The surprising thing is that both groups are after the same thing…. racing done right and the betterment (is that a word) of the breed.

    Think about it…..
    1) We know without the greyhound professionals we would not have the great dogs we have for adoption. It costs a lot of time and money to prepare these dogs for racing. The professionals on this group have a ton of pride in their dogs.
    2) Without the adoption people stepping in over the last 10 years and placing the dogs (sometimes at considerable time and expense) we would not have racing anymore. The court of public opinion would have shut it down.

    Now therein comes the problem:
    1) There are still adoption people who use the term “rescue” as that is what they were doing years back. By years back I mean as recently as 3 years back with one track. Problem solved. But, the use of that term undermines the work done by the good professionals that have worked hard at changing public opinion.
    2) There are still racing owners who do not donate 1 dime to adoption. The good racing owners say, “don’t take their dogs”, the adoption people say, “then what happens to the dog?” This undermines the adoption people and the racing owners who have done a lot to change public opinion.

There is no right or wrong here. I really wish both groups could come to an understanding that it is really all about the dog and the love of the breed. So, everyone gets so upset over the “r” word. Then other people get upset over the people getting upset over the “r” word. Then the fighting starts, people get disgusted and walk away from the conversation…..

Is it about the “r” word or is it really about the “G” word, as in Greyhound ?

  • Facebook Post: Happy Late Birthday Leona and Lady

I missed two birthdays a few days ago! Lady and Leona turned three on the 16th. Guess I will have to give them their birthday treats when I get home.

Good Afternoon all (somehow I missed the good morning)!
I am here in Rocky Hill, CT really missing FL right now. It is sort of a cool day. I am trying to convince myself to go out and run, but I think it will have to wait until the REALLY slow washer and dryer in the hotel laundry finishes. Being gone 2 weeks you really have to do laundry along the way someplace or things will get really bad.
Missing the pack! I need a puppy fix.

Good Morning all! It is a cold morning in Rocky Hill, CT today. Not sure what the outside temperature is because the backyard weather thingy is in FL and I am here in CT. Doesn’t make much sense.
So, found out last night while driving up here that there has been a major re-organization at work. Have a new boss. No idea where I fit into the picture, all I know is that as of yet I have not been reorged out. That is a positive. My old boss called to give me the news. That part sucks because I really worked well with him and he listened and was a team player. I know boss 2.0 (or is it 5.0?) and we will see with time (I believe that is a very fair statement).
What to do today? Perhaps take some lessons from my hounds…. pull up a bed and sleep? Not sure yet. Really need to start working on a presentation for next week that I haven’t started to write yet.
    Have a great day all!

    Morning all!
According to the AccuWindow it is COLD!!! outside here in York, PA. There is frost on the car windshields in the parking lot so I know it’s cold. As usual I woke up early and tried to get some work done, but found out fast that I am too tired to really concentrate. I guess I should probably get it into gear and head off to one of the Campuses.
    Everyone have great day!
