Road to the 2026 Huntsman World Senior Games

Training for the 1500m and 800m freestyle and the
100m and 200m breaststroke at the 2026 Huntsman World Senior Games.

This page tracks my progress from training through competition,
including workouts, race-distance tests, pace analysis, recovery
and changes to the training plan along the way.

Freestyle and breaststroke training pace by interval

Training With the Data

I don’t just record total distance and workout time.
I’m tracking individual intervals, pace by stroke,
race-distance performance, fatigue and recovery.

The goal isn’t simply to accumulate more meters.
Each workout should answer a question: Am I getting
faster? Can I hold pace longer? Where does my technique
begin to break down? And what needs to change next?

What I’m Working On

Each of the four events requires something different,
so the training mixes endurance, speed, technique and recovery.

Freestyle Endurance

The 1500m and 800m events require maintaining an
efficient pace without allowing technique to deteriorate
as distance accumulates.

Longer continuous swims and sustained repeats help
measure whether race pace can be maintained under fatigue.

Breaststroke Speed & Technique

The 100m and 200m breaststroke require more speed
while still preserving stroke timing, kick effectiveness
and an efficient glide.

Current training includes shorter race-specific work
as well as longer breaststroke sets designed to expose
technique changes under fatigue.

Recovery & Consistency

Improvement doesn’t come only from harder workouts.
Rest days and lighter sessions are part of the plan
so that training can remain consistent over the entire
build toward competition.

The training log includes the recovery days along
with the pool sessions because both are part of the process.

How I’m Measuring Progress

The training data is most useful when the same measurements
can be compared over time.

Race-Distance Tests

Periodic 1500m, 800m, 200m and 100m continuous
efforts provide direct comparisons with previous
training and competition benchmarks.

Pace per 100m

Breaking each workout into pace per 100 meters
makes different workout formats easier to compare
and helps identify changes that total time can hide.

Performance Under Fatigue

Early and late intervals are compared to see whether
pace and stroke efficiency remain stable as the workout
progresses.

The Training Log

This landing page shows the big picture.
The daily training log shows how I get there.

Workouts include distance, interval data, pace,
stroke analysis, race-distance tests, recovery days
and comparisons with previous training.

Why Document the Training?

Part of preparing for an event is seeing what actually works.
Rather than remembering a workout as simply good or bad,
I’m trying to preserve enough information to look back
and see how the training changed over time.

That means documenting the successful workouts,
the slow ones, the experiments, the rest days and
the occasional workout that doesn’t go according to plan.

By the time the Senior Games arrive, this page and the
accompanying training log should tell the complete story
from preparation through competition.
