Middle Mississippi Valley into the Central Plains on Wednesday...

A front extending from the Great Lakes to the Middle Mississippi
Valley into the Central/Southern Plains will slowly dissipate on
Friday. Moisture-rich air over the eastern part of the country
will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms from the Northeast
into the Great Lakes, Southeast to the Middle Mississippi Valley,
and into the Central/Southern Plains through Saturday. Showers
and thunderstorms will focus over parts of the Middle Mississippi
Valley/Central/Southern Plains, and some storms will become
severe. Therefore, the SPC has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of
severe thunderstorms over parts of the Middle Mississippi
Valley/Central/Southern Plains through Friday morning. The
hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent
lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a minimal
threat of tornadoes.
In addition, the WPC has issued a Marginal Risk (level 1/4) of
excessive rainfall over the country, from the Northeast to the
Southeast and from the Lower Great Lakes/Ohio Valley southwestward
to the Central/Southern Plains, on Thursday into Friday. The
associated heavy rain will create localized areas of flash
flooding, affecting areas that experience rapid runoff with heavy
rain.
Moreover, monsoonal moisture will produce showers and
thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain over parts of the
Southwest during the late afternoon into the late evening through
Saturday. The WPC has issued a Marginal Risk (level 1/4) of
excessive rainfall over parts of the Southwest.
Furthermore, a second front moving southward out of Central Canada
will move into parts of the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains
overnight Thursday into Friday and into the Lower Great Lakes/Ohio
Valley on Friday into Saturday. The boundary will trigger
scattered showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Upper
Midwest Thursday evening into Friday. Showers and thunderstorms
will continue over parts of the Lower Great Lakes into the Ohio
Valley on Saturday.
In the Northwest, ongoing fires will lead to persistent smoke in
the region, from Washington/Oregon eastward and also over the
Great Basin with separate fires. Air quality alerts are in effect
for much of the region. Some members of the public may experience
health effects. Members of sensitive groups may experience more
serious health effects. This includes children, the elderly, and
persons with respiratory problems. Temperatures will trend warmer
over the next couple of days, leading to Moderate HeatRisk levels
(3 out of 5).
