A front extending from the Upper Great Lakes to the Northern High
Plains will move slowly southward and eastward into the Northern
Mid-Atlantic, the Ohio Valley, and the Middle Mississippi
Valley/Central Plains, while beginning to dissipate by Sunday. The
system will produce showers and severe thunderstorms from the
Northern/Central Plains eastward to the Northeast/Northern
Mid-Atlantic. The SPC has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of
severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central Plains and Middle
Mississippi Valley on Friday. The hazards associated with these
thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind
gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes.
In addition, the SPC has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of
severe thunderstorms from the Northeast/Northern Mid-Atlantic
westward to the Northern/Central Plains. Therefore, the SPC has
issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms from the
Northeast/Northern Mid-Atlantic westward to the Northern/Central
Plains through Saturday morning. The hazards associated with
these thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm
wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes.
Moreover, the WPC has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/4) of
excessive rainfall over parts of the Central Plains/Middle
Mississippi Valley through Saturday morning. The associated heavy
rain will create mainly localized areas of flash flooding, with
urban areas, roads, small streams, and low-lying areas being the
most vulnerable.
On Saturday, the SPC has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of
severe thunderstorms in the Central High Plains through Sunday
morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms are
frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a
few tornadoes. Furthermore, the SPC has issued a second area of a
Slight Risk (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the
Mid-Atlantic/Central Appalachians from Saturday through Sunday
morning. Likewise, the hazards associated with these thunderstorms
are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, and a
minimal threat of tornadoes and hail. The WPC has issued a broad
Marginal Risk (level 1/4) of excessive rainfall from parts of the
Northeast/Mid-Atlantic westward to the Midwest and southward to
the Tennessee Valley. The associated heavy rain will create
localized areas of flash flooding, affecting areas that experience
rapid runoff with heavy rain.
Meanwhile, a second front moves onshore over the Pacific Northwest
late Saturday afternoon into evening and moves steadily eastward
to the Northern Intermountain Region/Northern High Plains, and
Northern California by Sunday morning. Elsewhere, scattered
showers and thunderstorms will develop along the Gulf Coast and
Florida through Sunday.
