USA EL NINO FORECAST & CLIMATE OUTLOOK
ENSO STATUS: 2026-2027 El Nino forecast is severe, referred to as
super El Nino or Godzilla El Nino. World Meteorological
Organization reports it will be largest El Nino in at least 1,000
years. Exceptionally high likelihood of nearly 100% that El Nino
will persist through February 2027.
WINTER 2026-27 OUTLOOK: NOAA favors above-normal precipitation
across southern US and parts of West, with strongest signals
across Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Gulf Coast
and Southeast. Northern United States forecast shows warmer
conditions while southern regions show wetter conditions December
2026 through February 2027.
SUMMER 2027 OUTLOOK: Currently limited real-time summer 2027 data
available in NOAA forecasts. El Nino expected to be strong with
unusually warm waters across equatorial Pacific. Strong El Nino
winters often favor milder temperatures across much of United
States and wetter conditions in parts of West and South.
REGIONAL IMPACTS: NOAA seasonal precipitation outlook for November
2026 through January 2027 shows higher probability for below
normal precipitation in parts of Idaho, Oregon, Washington and
above normal precipitation for much of Alaska.
