USA EL NINO FORECAST & CLIMATE OUTLOOK
ENSO STATUS: El Niño developed in early June 2026 and is expected to
strengthen. The 2026–2027 forecast is for a severe super El Niño
referred to as a Godzilla El Niño. NOAA's Climate Prediction
Center puts a very strong El Niño above 90% for fall and winter
  2026–27.
WINTER TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK: Temperature outlook favors above-normal
temperatures across a large portion of the United States for
winter 2026-2027. During a typical El Niño winter, the jet stream
over the north Pacific tends to shift southward, bringing the
storm track over the southern tier of the U.S.
WINTER PRECIPITATION OUTLOOK: NOAA favors above-normal precipitation
across a broad portion of the southern United States and parts of
the West, with strongest signals extending across Southern
California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, the Gulf Coast and
  Southeast.
SUMMER 2026 OUTLOOK: Official outlooks from the NWS's Climate
Prediction Center show an increased potential for above normal
temperatures this summer. Precipitation outlooks show equal
chances of above, near, or below normal rainfall.
