The Winlink to Packet Gateway v5 beta is now available for testing. This
version allows the receiving packet station to send a reply back to the
sender (NEW).
After opening an incoming message, the receiving packet station simply
needs to click "REPLY" or use "SR ####" (where #### represents the
inbound message number). The subject line of the reply message must not
be edited; the only change is that the BBS will automatically add "Re:"
to the beginning of the subject line.
For example:
- Incoming subject line: New Message From Callsign by WLGATE v5
- Reply subject line: Re: New Message From Callsign by WLGATE v5
Messages will originate from N3MEL, and replies will be routed back to
N3MEL. The gateway code will read the callsign in the subject line and
automatically redirect your reply to that station via Winlink.
As a recap:
- Winlink Users: You can create a message to WLGATE and place the
packet user's callsign in the subject line. You do not need the full
packet address if the user is listed in the search portal here:
https://www.tprfn.net/us-bbs-search-portal. If the callsign is not found
in this registry, the message may not be delivered.
- Packet Users: After opening the message, select "REPLY" or "SR
####". Do not edit the subject line, enter your message in the body, and
send.
