  • Day 2 – Mason, Sugarcreek, Spring Valley, OH

    Second day of travels took me from Mason, to Sugarcreek, Spring Valley, Ohio, and then back to my hotel for the evening in Erlinger, KY. Had two large loss claims (commercial and high dollar value), and one residential claim with geothermal systems. I like geothermal, if I am in the area I will always take geothermal claims.

    Day 2 Travels

    Along the way I came across this neatest little park in the woods that deserved some attention. Had a replica of an old blacksmith shop and a maple sugar house. Of course we can’t forget about the wasps in the ground that almost got me.

    Then headed back to the hotel to find something to go see in the evening. I try to find something every afternoon or evening to see in the area I am traveling to. Today I wanted to find someplace to access the river. Finally found a spot in Giles Conrad Park on the Kentucky side of the river.

  • Mason, OH

    Finally arrived for night 1 in Mason, OH. This will be a one night stay before I complete three inspections tomorrow. No daylight pictures of Mason, but here are some nice evening shots I got. I love the lights in the 360 Panoramic views.

  • On the road again!

    That should be “In the air again … almost.” Flying out of Tampa this afternoon for a 10 day trip that will take me to five states in the process. I rarely blog about my trips, but I decided that this time I would have some fun doing this. As many of you know I am a Technical Field Manager for HVACi (HVAC Investigators) which is part of Consolidated Claims Group IQ. We do Cause of Loss investigations for most of the major insurance companies in the country when there is a claim regarding anything HVAC/R, electrical, or electronics. There are four of us who are Technical Field Managers, and during the busy season one of our roles is to go help the local technicians get caught up when they fall behind, provide support and training to our technician base, provide technical support to our processors and report writers, and do loss evaluations on the large commercial claims which require special handling.

    So, once this thunderstorm clears and we can leave the gate, I am on my way to Cincinnati to start the work week.

  • Firmware Update Success

    As I am getting ready to leave on another business trip I decided to make sure that the firmware on my DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone was up to date. Then, because I do not trust developers, I always test. It was a nice sunny afternoon in Babson Park, FL. Enjoy a few 360 Panoramic views. Stay tuned and see what else comes your direction this week.

    RIP Lesley Roberts Tierney Ezkovich.

    Folks, please take a moment and send a quick prayer for Lesley, Glenn, and her family. Lesley passed away this morning, January 24, 2021. I do not have any further details at this time.

    Regardless of the hardships of the past year Lesley has been a long time friend of the greyhounds, shepherding many retired racers to their forever homes and couches. Please remember that in your memories. Hug those hounds that have passed through her hands that may reside in your home.

    I am still cold from my lunchtime swim today. I don’t normally swim at the Lakeland Family YMCA, so how was I to know the pool heater has been busted for a few weeks now. I dove in and did my warm-up laps and began to look for the iceberg that sunk the Titanic. I am surprised the ship wasn’t in the frosty waters either.

    I rarely cut my workouts short, but that was ridiculous. I think it rivaled the pool temps of the Idlewood Swim Club when David Molnar and I were kids swimming in the AAU kids teams. BRrrrrrrrrr……

    Then…. to top matters off, I go into the locker room thinking a hot shower would be nice. Well, they have 3 shower stalls, 2 work, one sort of pisses water out. Some ancient dude was signing songs from the 50’s while hogging the good one. Then, as I went to get into the other working one some guy dives into it who appears to be afraid to change into his board shorts around other guys. Ok, so I get stuck with the non-working shower. And I am STILL cold.

    OK, you can all laugh now.

    And 7 years ago today we started our adventure with blood thinners, clots, liver issues, etc. What a ride it has been.

    I want a refund if they touch either. I have been paying into these programs since I was 16. I always declared and paid my self employment taxes, and never over estimated refunds. This is BS. These old dudes in congress are so out of touch with reality that they believe that everyone has an employer funded retirement fund. Think again. My employer stopped matching contributions to my 401K almost 9 years ago, around the time pay increases stopped. We don’t have a pension plan, and we do not have any other “fall backs.” I am counting on having Social Security so I can survive and not work until I fall into my grave.

    So…. once again we think that a prescription drug may have caused my night-before-Christmas hospital stay (actually 4 days before Christmas).
    One of my doctors in trying to do the right thing was treating my constant back pain with a low dose (600mg twice a day) of Gabapentin. It did a number on my stomach, increased acid reflux, may have inflamed a hiental (sp?) hernia and caused a lot of pain in my esophagus because of the acid.
    While I was in the hospital they stopped giving me everything but my blood thinners. After being out of the hospital we restarted my gabapentin. Stomach issues returned. Then we stopped it again. Stomach issues gone.
