Linux configuration for the Yaesu FT-710,
including persistent USB device names, ALSA audio,
Hamlib rigctld and Direwolf configuration.
The setup also includes APRS and packet-radio
configuration examples used with the station.
KO4YAW Packet Radio Bulletins
Browse packet-radio bulletin groups available
through the KO4YAW bulletin system.
Groups are listed with their latest bulletin date,
with the most recently active groups appearing first.
From the group list you can browse individual bulletins
and read their full contents.
Tempest Weather to APRS
A project that retrieves data from a Tempest
weather station, formats it for APRS and integrates
the resulting weather data into the amateur-radio
station.
Packet Radio & APRS
Packet radio and APRS are where several of the
station’s projects overlap: radios, Linux,
Direwolf, networking and automated data services.
The bulletin server and weather-to-APRS project
are two examples of systems built around those
technologies.
Packet Radio Bulletin System
The KO4YAW bulletin system provides a web interface
to packet-radio bulletin groups available from the
station’s NNTP bulletin service.
The web interface lists the available groups,
shows the most recently active groups first,
and allows individual bulletins to be browsed
and read directly from cmolnar.com.
Linux & Amateur Radio
Much of the station infrastructure combines
amateur-radio hardware with Linux software.
Rig Control
Hamlib and rigctld provide network-accessible
control of the FT-710 and allow multiple pieces
of radio software to share the radio interface.
Direwolf
Direwolf provides software TNC functionality
for APRS and packet-radio operation and is used
in several of the station’s Linux-based projects.
APRS Weather
Weather-station data can be converted into
APRS-compatible weather reports and distributed
through the amateur-radio infrastructure.
Bulletin Distribution
The KO4YAW bulletin pages provide another bridge
between traditional packet-radio services and
modern web access.
Radio as a Technology Project
Amateur radio on this site often overlaps with the
