Education
Vocational education, adult learning,
educational leadership and lifelong learning.
Education has been a major part of both my professional
work and academic study. This section brings together
material on vocational and technical education, adult
learning, educational leadership, learning theory,
curriculum development and research.

Vocational & Technical Education
A recurring theme throughout my academic and professional
work is vocational education: how people learn practical
skills, how technical programs serve students with different
backgrounds and learning needs, and how education can connect
directly to meaningful employment.
Much of the work collected here grew out of experience
teaching and supervising vocational programs while studying
educational leadership and change.

Recurring Themes
Several ideas appear repeatedly throughout the
educational material on this site.
Adult Learning
Adults bring prior experience, existing knowledge
and specific goals to education. Effective training
needs to recognize and use those differences.
Vocational Education
Technical and occupational education provides
a direct connection between learning, practical
competence and employment.
Learning Differences
Students do not all arrive with the same background,
abilities, motivation or preferred ways of learning.
Educational systems need enough flexibility to
recognize those differences.
Systems Thinking
Education does not happen in isolation.
Students, instructors, families, institutions,
communities and prior experiences all interact
within a larger system.
Education & Professional Background
My own educational path has not followed a single
traditional route. It has included vocational education,
self-directed technical learning, software development,
Linux training, technical instruction and graduate study
in educational leadership and change.
That combination of formal education, vocational training
and self-directed learning strongly influences how I think
about education and the material collected on this site.
