Well, just wrapped up all the race updates for 2015 in Greyhound-data. We have a total of 81895 races run in the US (give or take a few based on tracks not sending electronic data on time. If you know of a race missing from 2015 please tell me). Each race usually has 8 athletes competing. This translates to 655,160 starts in the US.
We have seen some good and some bad during the course of 2015 with respect to the hounds racing. The good, The Iowa Greyhound Park had a spectacular first year of operation. The BetAmerica Daytona 550 was a success, and regardless of what one group is telling everyone to believe every track I have visited has an increase in attendance. While the kennels do not get any of it I believe there has been an increase in dollars wagered on the internet. The kennels should get a percentage.
The bad? Well, last night was the final night of racing at the Gulf. We saw closing of Bluffs Run. I saw two of my friends have to close their kennels because the points are just too low to be able to properly care for the dogs and their families.
That just about sums up 2016. Feel free to add the highs and the lows. Feel free to share into appropriate groups.
